Invisalign Treatment Coppell

How many times have you considered having your crooked or spaced teeth fixed? How many times have you thought “I could use braces to give me a better smile” but then reconsidered due to the appalling shape of metallic braces , and the shear refusal of having a “metal mouth”?

What if we tell you that we have the solution?

That is the INVISALIGN technology.

Invisalign Coppell

What is INVISALIGN?

INVISALIGN technology is revolutionary. You might have heard of the technology under the name “invisible braces”. This technology allows us to move the teeth and align them perfectly, without resorting to metallic brackets, wires and elastics.

What is INVISALIGN made of?

Contrary to traditional braces, INVISALIGN involves no brackets or wires, nothing is attached to your teeth. Instead, we use clear plastic molds called “aligners” that are placed in close proximity to the teeth, rendering them literally invisible to the eye. Anyone who looks at your teeth will not be able to see these aligners.

Without brackets or wires, how do the teeth move?

This is what is great about the technology. Teeth move if enough pressure is applied to them. The idea of INVISALIGN is applying pressure through the aligners instead of through the wires and brackets, but of course this pressure is significantly lower than traditional braces, making the treatment period last a bit longer, which is the main drawback of this technology.

Who could benefit from this technology?

Anybody who suffers from malalignment of their teeth, whether crooked, crowded, spaced and even missing teeth. This technology is designed mainly for adults, but could also be applied on children, provided that all their baby teeth have fallen out and changed for permanent teeth.

How do I get started?

Another great advantage of this technology is its simplicity and accuracy. No longer do you have to go to your orthodontist every couple of weeks, and no lengthy visits for wire changing and elastics application. All that is needed is an accurate mold of your teeth (which takes about 5 minutes). This mold is sent to the lab, which scans this mold with a special camera and produces a computer rendered replica of your teeth. A computer program designs the aligners and gives the order to a milling machine to fabricate them. Each case needs around 20 to 25 aligners, each lasting from 1 to 4 weeks in your mouth. You would have to visit your Coppell dentist every 1 to 2 months for a new mold.

What are the advantages and drawbacks of this technology?

  • Better appearance since there are no brackets or wires, making it ideal for adults.
  • Nothing attached to the teeth, meaning it can be removed anytime, making it more comfortable during eating and also making the brushing and cleaning process much easier.
  • Computer generated, meaning very low possibility of human errors. What you see is what you get.
  • Ease of the process, where the number of visits is reduced significantly and the entire visit could be done in less than 10 minutes unlike normal brackets.
  • Comfort, where traditional braces wearers often complain of cuts, bruises and ulcers opposite the brackets. No more with the aligners

However, this technology has a few drawbacks, such as:

  • Increased treatment period since the pressure applied by the aligners is quite lower than traditional braces.
  • The aligners are made from clear thin plastic, so liable to break especially during insertion and removal from the mouth.
  • Unlike traditional braces, INVISALIGN is not suitable for all cases, as it can’t treat jaw discrepancies and cases of rotated teeth, and also not suitable for children whose baby teeth are still present.
